Can't Leave The House? 3 Ways To Get Relief From Back Pain During Self-Isolation

If you suffer from lower back pain, chiropractic care can reduce the discomfort. Recent sheltering in place rules make it difficult to get out of the house. This is especially true if you're part of one of the at-risk groups. The at-risk groups include the elderly and those with preexisting medical conditions. If your lower back pain is interfering with your mobility, but you're not able to leave the house, here are three simple steps you can take to reduce the discomfort.

Take a Walk

If your lower back pain is causing you distress, but you can't get to the chiropractor right now, go for a walk. Head outside in the early morning hours, before your neighbors get up, and take a walk around the block. The light exercise helps loosen your muscles, which will reduce the back pain you're experiencing. If getting outside isn't an option, take a walk around the inside of your home. You can also walk in place while you watch your favorite television show.

Heat Things Up

If you're suffering from low back pain, and can't find relief, heat things up. Apply a heating pad to your lower back for several minutes each day. The heat will help loosen your muscles and reduce the inflammation that can cause low back pain. If you don't have access to a heating pad, toss a towel in the dryer for several minutes and then apply it to your back. You can also make your own heating pad using an old sock and some dry rice. Fill an old sock with rice and tie a knot in the top. Place the sock in your microwave for about a minute. Place the sock on your lower back to ease pain and discomfort.

Use Aqua Therapy

If self-isolation is preventing you from receiving the chiropractic care you need right now, use aqua therapy to ease the pain. Even if you don't have access to a swimming pool or hot tub, you can still enjoy relief from aqua therapy. Fill your bathtub with warm water and add about two cups of epsom salt. Allow the epsom salt to dissolve and then soak for about 30 minutes.

Don't let self-isolation interfere with your ability to get relief from back pain. Use the tips provided here to reduce lower back pain. Be sure to contact your chiropractor and follow their instructions concerning visits.
